If you don’t have leaf guards then you probably have dirty gutters. Don’t worry, we can assure you, you’re not the only ones! There are bound to be a large number of Australian homes with slippery roofs, dodgy roof tiles, and clogged up gutters. However, if you don’t have any experience in walking upon a roof you will most likely need to call  in the professionals to clean out your gutters and clean off your roof to prepare your home for the summer bushfire season.

The message from the Rural Fire Service to be prepared is: PREPARE. ACT. SURVIVE.

The Leaf Man leaf guards can help you in your ‘PREPARE’ plan.

How Do Our Leaf Guards Help?

Our leaf guards are installed in such a way that there is no gap left between your gutter and your roof line. No gap ensure that your roof line is sealed off, allowing you to keep clean gutters. This in turn will help to protect your roof as well as your gutters from flying embers.

The leaf guards made by The Leaf Man have been granted a zero flammability certificate from the CSIRO which means there is no chance of it becoming flammable in a fire. This is unlike some gutter leaf guard products which are made of aluminium or plastic. Our leaf guards will not ignite or melt under intense heat and are anti-corrosive. If any embers do happen to fall on the gutter guards, they will simply burn out.

Other than being prepared with your leaf guards here are some more tips for ensuring your home is ready for the bushfire season.

  1. Check your gutters are free of leaves and debris. If you do not have leaf guards you will need to check your gutters regularly, particularly in the weeks where the danger of bushfire is higher.
  2. Be sure to check your yard, including the paths on the sides of your home and make sure there are no flammable materials lying around. This includes dry leaves and twigs.
  3. Make sure you have thoroughly thought out your bushfire plan and have discussed it with the family so everyone knows what is expected of them and knows what to do in the event of a fire.
  4. Be sure to learn the bushfire ratings and when you need to make a move.

There is no way to predict where or when a bushfire will hit, the best we can do is be prepared. This includes ensuring our home is protected with leaf guards and we have a plan in place. If you’d like to know more about the leaf guards available from The Leaf Man Australia, contact us today!
