Winter may seem like a long way off, but it will be back before you know it and when it comes you need to make sure your gutter mesh screen is in place so you don’t face a disaster.

You’re probably well aware of the fact that a gutter mesh screen is designed to keep your gutters free from debris, but do you know why it’s very important to keep your gutters perfectly clear, especially when we head into winter?

Why Do You Need A Gutter Mesh Screen?

The Leaves Aren’t The Problem

A few stray leaves landing in your gutters as they fall from the trees isn’t going to cause you any problems in the beginning. The real danger becomes apparent when they remain there because your gutters will block up quickly.

Once that happens the leaves will become soggy and they will build up until no water will be able to escape them.

You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to work out what happens when gutters fill up with water. They become heavy and they end up bearing a weight they’re not designed to handle.

They’re Only Tiny Little Screws

The screws holding your gutters in place won’t be able to handle the weight crushing down on them. They’ll eventually snap and your gutters will fall to the ground.

Someone could be standing underneath the gutters when this happens and it could end in catastrophe. At the very least someone is going to get very wet, but at the worst it’s a lot more dangerous because of ice.

Winter Is The Most Dangerous Time

Not only will the water remain in your gutters unable to escape, but once it gets cold enough the water will turn to ice. Plastic guttering and cold water falling on your head will ruffle your feathers, but long blocks of ice smashing to the ground is an entirely different ball game.

If the weight of the ice isn’t enough to bring your gutters crashing down they could still fall from the sky once the snow settles on top of them creating even more weight in the process. None of this would happen and danger would be avoided with a gutter mesh screen in place.

It Doesn’t Need To Be Dangerous

We’ve talked about why it’s dangerous and costly to have gutters full to the brim, but there is also another reason you could lose a great deal of money without your life ever being at risk.

Once the water starts turning into ice it’s also going to put a great deal of pressure on your poor, plastic guttering. The screws might remain in place, but your gutters will crack under the pressure. They won’t end up on the ground, but you’ll still need to go out and replace them.

If you don’t you’ll only end up taking two showers every morning: once in your bathroom and once when you step out of your front door.

It’s Not Too Late

You can always scrape out all the debris in your gutters during winter, but unless you have roofing experience it’s not worth climbing up ladders when it’s cold and frosty outside.

The best solution is to deal with the problem now before the bad weather gets a chance to strike. Don’t live to regret it, because you’ll kick yourself if you end up losing all that money for nothing when the problem can easily be diverted right now by installing a gutter mesh screen.
